Further Notes on "The Great Hike"

I've just posted a new painting which I would like to discuss more about - you may be seeing future works with some of my techniques pictured there in the future.

The majority of the painting was created using a small, semi-round hard brush, (located in my myntibrush vol II) through a series of scribbles and random markmaking. You can see the details of the painting in my scraps:



Although I did not purposefully start off scribbling, it ended up as the best way to create texture, so at the end I embraced this method and played it up! I'm hoping to experiment with a few small paintings in the scribblism technique in the future. Much like pointilism, the scribbles are not solid blocks and therefore colors next to eachother blend and create a more complex and variated color than normal smooth blending techniques in digital painting.

My aim with this is to create texture with various scribble marks, allowing the entire painting to vibrate with activity for the eyes.

I love happening by these neat accidents; and I wouldn't have come up with the idea if I hadn't had such a challenging subject to paint.

I think scribblism may not work on smaller canvases, but my challenge over the next few weeks is to see if this will be a viable, different way to paint without defining specific forms, and instead allowing only light, color and shadow to do that for me.
