A face study; based on this stock photograph: [link]

57 hours, mostly Painter X with the eyelashes, eye reflection, hair, skin texture, and freckles done in Photoshop CS3.

I still am not quite sure about this one, but any critique would be handy. I know the colors are weird... I have no explanation other than I think I see colors more vividly than they actually exist.. so yeah. :paranoid:

I tried to be exact; but there are SO many errors here I feel a little crazy trying to fix them at this point >.> However, I'm quite happy to make some adjustments if I get a consensus... so lemme hear your ideas ;)

If you want to see a walkthrough and the details... beware for large file size and clicky here: [link]

I probably won't submit a larger size of this because I'd rather not watermark it. :)

UPDATE! Well, after 29 more hours of working on this... I changed quite a bit. I want to especially thank `memod and =liiga for the indepth crits on my WIPs, mostly I bugged Dan endlessly about the improbable beautiful imperfection in this little lady's face. I also listened to many of you about the freckles and skin texture, and you can see here most of my reworking was removing the old freckle layer and repainting the entire skin surface. So, the older version, which was the first submission of this piece, I've moved to scraps here: [link] and this file is the updated version now.

I'll be redoing the walkthrough in a bit as well to reflect the final piece.

Thanks for lookin!
Gracie

Hehe, no, there are quite a bit of mistakes for this to be a photograph :giggle: I'm glad you like it, though.

I can't see mistakes in it. I'd have thought it was just how she really looks.

errrr, ummmm, for my amateurish eyes there aren't any mistakes. ;)
Hm, okay :) I'm not sure, I think I've been looking at it for too long.

The colors look weird because of the blue hue that surround the edge of the face in the stock you based it on, and the hint of green in the middle. Basically, you've warmed the face, but left some of the colder colors in (mostly at the right eye and mouth), which is why they look 'off'.

Still though, vastly beyond anything I've produced lately, and definitely one of your better works in terms of character. I swear I could just reach out and touch her face if I'd had any less sleep.

Well done. :)
