Making Waves by mynti Making Waves by mynti
My little sister's best friend just had a baby boy, so this is a personal piece for little Logan. A bit of fun and some practice at anthropomorphizing animals, which I am not so familiar with yet... keeping it loose, fast, and pumpin' out the paintings!

Medium: Acrylic on stretched and primed Canvas
Time: 4 hours total (including sketching)
WIP photo: [link]
Size: 9"x12" or approx. 23 x 30 cm

Photos of it framed: [link] & [link]

Thanks for watching and cheers!
Gracie

I rarely use edit undo even in my digital work. I have been drawing 10 years before I ever picked up a tablet... in charcoal, pencil and oils mostly.

This is adorable! It looks like it should be in a little children's book about... elephant-whales. The color palette fits wonderfully and the lack of little little details makes it perfect for little kids, in my opinion. Leaves more to the imagination. :#1:

Beautiful piece, as always.

 Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I am trying to create pieces in shorter time, but I fear I am never quite satisfied with these fast ones..

However, they are much more fun to paint... quite loose and flowy and messy! :giggle:

Aww... this looks like such a cute and fun picture, it's awesome! ^^ The watery effects look good, and I like how the elephant seems to be almost 'framed' by the water in a sense. =)

The creature sitting on the elephant's right foreleg seems a bit blurry- is it meant to be a frog? xD;

And if you don't mind a little critique (from my perspective at least), the colours look awesome like this, but then again, all that blue makes the foreground blend with the background, and the important parts of the piece don't really 'jump' out at me. I think maybe if the sky had been a different colour- maybe purplish or maybe white, depending on which conveyed the mood better- then the whole piece would have more contrast in it, and the foreground would stand out more. But that is just my two cents, and it looks great the way it is, already! =)

Thanks for the little critique! :glomp: I am looking at the framed piece now and debating about what you say with the contrast in color, but I feel if I up the color scheme I will need to also rework most of the animals too, to keep it consistent... a change in the sky would also effect water, and the overall scheme of the piece (at least a lil of the new color all over, or it will seem off) and I'm not sure if I want to put so much time in to this one...

I'll think about it and post my results either way, when I decide

I might do a digital test before I go in with traditional paint if I can't make up my mind, I think.

Oh, I love it! It's so happy looking. :aww: Something I really needed to see right now. :)

By the way, I took up your advice and am trying painting. I'm starting simple though, and doing those paint by number ones. (and not the cheap kiddies ones ;))

I'm glad to help you smile :glomp:

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying painting, although I've not done color by numbers so I don't know how that goes  I'm thinking though, to follow your own path and forge ahead without too many helpers, as what can start as a training wheel might soon be a crutch... trust yourself and your eyeballs, and time will provide the rest :glomp:

If it helps to get you started enjoying painting from the get-go though, then enjoy it for a while :glomp: :giggle:

Hehe, I do agree. I'm trying not to use it as a crutch. I don't plan on using it much after this, as it is very painstaking to find all those tiny numbers to paint over with the right colour. :faint: However, I do like it as it gives me a good sense of colouring and blending. :aww: I hope to go find some canvas soon and start painting simple flowers from my garden for a bit after the PBN. :D
