Speed Paint VI and Anim by mynti Speed Paint VI and Anim by mynti
1.5 hour speedpaint - I know this one isn't my best, but I worked on more layers than usual this time so I could create a walkthrough at the end for you. I've been asked a lot recently how I am doing these, so here you go:

Walkthrough Animation

I don't have any one specific technique for any of the speedpaints, but this is how I went about this particular one. Usually, I only work on 2-3 layers for speedpaints, so it was weird that I added new layers so much - but generally I added a new layer every 5-10 minutes, whenever I remembered to do so.

This is actually a digital painting, but I do paint traditionally as well. I'm glad you like it!

For a speed paint i think that looks great. I can barely paint but that is so wild, i wish i had talent like that as it is so realistic.

Like some others said, you make it seem so easy, but I would NEVER be able to do this, at least not unless i had alot of training and really learned how to draw with my wacom, till then I'll just do what I do ;)

Looks wonderful hun, really like the use of color and the warm feeling of this picture.

It isn't so easy :) I draw every day, and most I toss out - and I've been drawing (traditionally) for 10 years now. It takes a lot of practice, that's all :)

I can tell, people don't get these kind of skills from anything else that practice and more practice, that is why I admire what alot of you guys are doing right now with the speed painting, it shows great comitment to you art :)

You know, when I saw the thumbnail for this, I was absolutely convinced it was a photograph. :O_o: Up close, I can see it isn't... but it *does* ooze a great deal of - character. :D

Can't do foliage to save my life.

The walk thru is very cool. It still amazes me how you do it
holding the picture in your mind while starting the initial lines
and colors must take some discipline too, not a skill I have
much control over.

Very Nice piece of work.

Thank you :) I've been studying art for about 10 years - it's only the past year and a half that I've gone digital, most of my work, especially in college, is oil paint... I just really have no extra cash to afford it anymore. Colors are still (in my opinion) best to learn by mixing pigments, you really get a sense of the "true" color of things, and not the color it appears to be when placed beside other colors.

A great color theory book, if you're interested, is Itten: elements of color, you can get it on amazon.com for pretty cheap :)

:shakefinger: (wait that's not an emote ^^;) the tools don't make the artist. Just because you have the best tool doesn't mean you're the best artist, you have to know how to use it.

 I miss you hun!
